Hello, I'm Bud
Nancy and I have called McHenry County home since 2013, and we chose it because it offers something increasingly rare: strong communities, open spaces, local history, small businesses, and a quality of life worth protecting.
My life has taken me through military service, teaching, business leadership, and family, but the same principle has guided each chapter: serve responsibly, plan carefully, and leave things stronger for those who come next.
My Story
Edward “Bud” Bowie is a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel, former Professor of Military History and Science at the Army Command & Staff College and past CEO of a successful commercial sanitation business. A McHenry County resident since 2013, he and his wife Nancy chose McHenry because of all this unique community has to offer.
A husband, father of 5 and grandfather of 2, Bud is dedicated to protecting what makes our county special while promoting the responsible growth needed to keep McHenry County a great place to live, work and raise families.
An outdoor enthusiast, Bud is a member of the McHenry County Audubon Society, Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, and McHenry County Historical Society. He sees the County’s Conservation Districts as a priceless legacy and vital sources of tourism and growth. He will work to protect these treasures while also supporting sustainable development that preserves agriculture, attracts light industry and creates good jobs.
With senior management experience in both government and private industry, Bud understands the needs and responsibilities of each. His military and business careers honed the analytical planning skills essential for overseeing complex development projects and understands the problems facing small companies. Bud is pledged to pragmatic, transparent leadership, balancing public interest with individual rights.
Bud is committed to fiscal responsibility. He believes in a fair deal for all workers and employers and respect for the dignity and rights of all citizens. Bud Bowie will bring responsible, disciplined, non-partisan leadership to the McHenry County Board to meet our future challenges.
